bio Pants Avengers are a collaborative team. Janina McCormack and Craig Flanagin both received early encouragement in painting and drawing; each participated in a number of group shows, as well as mounting solo exhibitions, by age 18. This is enough to make a person sick of art for a lifetime, and each turned to other media: Janina concentrated on short films, and Craig pursued a musical career. In late 2004, the two found themselves hanging out with nothing to do and lots of paper, and made an 18" X 240" drawing. This was a really fun way to spend an evening. And they remembered that you can just make things, for fun, with no thought of an audience. Or whether it might be art. Pants Avengers are from Staten Island and South Dakota. They were educated at Hunter, Yale, and Fordham. In addition to paintings and drawings, they make installations, immersive musical instruments, comic books, prints, books made of felt, handmade paper, t-shirts, accessories, stuffed animals, and plush costumes. |
