Bicycles Locked to Poles at jen bekman in May 2005 was Glassie's New York gallery debut and his first solo exhibition. The book Bicycles Locked to Poles is published by McSweeney's Books.

The book and the show have been written about in numerous venues, including The Baltimore Sun, The Boston Globe, The New York Times, New York Magazine, New York Press, Photo Magazine (French), Readymade Magazine, and the Village Voice.

John's writing has appeared in The Believer, The New York Times Magazine, Salon, Wired, and The Ganzfeld, among other publications. His photographs have been seen on the sadly defunct Surgery of Modern Warfare website. He is from Washington, D.C., and lives in New York.
